Gymnastic great Simone Biles’ teammates laud her human side

As the 2024 Olympics approach, Simone Biles hopes to make a return, with fans and teammates looking forward to her

Simone Biles shines not only as a gymnastic wonder but also as a beacon of down-to-earth characteristics, catching the hearts of both spectators and teammates.

As anticipation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris grows, Biles returns from a two-year break, prepared to become the Games’ focal point.

Biles, 26, wears the weight of expectations elegantly, juggling not just the demands of her gymnastics profession but also a two-career marriage with Green Bay Packers star Jonathan Owens. During her tough training, she shares the gym with aspiring adolescent colleagues, forming friendships that cross age barriers.

Joscelyn Roberson, a 17-year-old comrade who was part of the gold medal-winning team at last year’s World Championships, comments on the camaraderie: “Yeah, I certainly feel like the age gap doesn’t matter in the gym. So our problems are comparable. “Getting to know Simone has been a lot of fun.”

“I feel like we’re all trying to strive for the same goals and we’re all doing the same thing.”

The bond between Biles and her colleagues goes beyond the gym. Roberson recounts the amazing occasion when Biles, inspired by a video of a young Roberson’s gymnastic prowess, uploaded it on social media, expressing astonishment. “It just made me feel really special,” Roberson explains.

Zoe Miller, another teammate, emphasizes her love for Biles’ traits over her gymnastic abilities. Miller attests to Biles’ humility, caring, and their close bond.

However, team dynamics go beyond athletic excellence. Tiana Sumanasekera, a member of the Pan American Games squad, characterizes them as a “very silly group of girls.”

Biles, along with partner Zoe Miller, contributes much to a positive atmosphere during difficult training sessions. “Whenever we are having a hard day or something, they’re always there to crack a joke and make us laugh even if we’re crying,” said Sumanasekera.

Jordan Chiles, who competed with Biles at the 2020 Tokyo Games, is pleased to see her return to gymnastics. Chiles regards Biles as not just a fantastic gymnast, but also as someone who has changed the sport, similar to the influence Michael Jordan had on basketball and Serena Williams on tennis.

In the words of Jordan Chiles, “Seeing her do this again for her third time, I think is something that I wish I could do. I wish I could be in that position where it’s just like, you know what, this is what I want to do and I’m just going to go for it.”
