PSL 2024: Saud ready for new job, Haris upbeat as teams gear up for action

The ninth HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) is about to begin, as teams continued to drill at the LCCA venue on Wednesday.

The Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi practiced in the afternoon, while Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United trained under lights.

Test batsman Saud Shakeel, the Quetta Gladiators’ recently chosen vice-captain, claimed he felt no pressure in his new job.

“I will try to cash in on all of the opportunities I get in my career,” the left-hander told reporters.

The 28-year-old Saud stated he had no idea why Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed as Gladiators captain by South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw.

“The owner of the team knew the exact reason behind removing Sarfaraz as captain,” Saud told reporters.

“The appointment of Rossouw, who is also an experienced batsman, will help me bring improvement in my game,” the batsman said.

He also stated that the addition of pacer Mohammad Amir to the club will help Gladiators perform better in the PSL.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi director Mohammad Akram stated that Babar Azam, as captain, will determine his batting position for the PSL games.

According to Akram, Zalmi had asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to hold their matches in Rawalpindi and Karachi if Peshawar was not an option.

Akram stated that a strong Zalmi squad had both foreign and domestic players.

Qalandars’ pace spearhead. Haris Rauf stated that his squad was in a terrific position to win a hat-trick of PSL titles.

“Qalandars have a large fan base, and each player will do his best not to disappoint them. “Our goal is to win the title for the third time in a row,” the Pakistani pacer told reporters.

“I always try to learn from my mistakes which is the best way to bring improvement in the game.”
He was full of admiration for his captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, who also leads Pakistan’s Twenty20 team.

“Shaheen is a very cool player and captain and he always backs his players.”

Domestic circuit players have the opportunity to earn a spot in the national T20 team by doing well in the PSL, Haris explained.

“As a result, we expect that every Qalandars player will do his utmost to provide a spectacular performance.

“My goal is to deliver a match-winning performance in every game,” the 30-year-old paceman stated.

Commuters in Lahore are experiencing major traffic congestion as a result of the PSL teams’ tight training schedule.

First, the local authorities had to clear the way for the teams to take from their hotel to the LCCA venue in the afternoon, and then they had to bring extra clothes for night practice.

Meanwhile, PSL 9’s official song has been published. It was performed by famous vocalists Ali Zafar and Aima Baig.

Also on Wednesday, the freshly created PCB Board of Governors met at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, chaired by Mohsin Naqvi.

The BoG meeting approved the PSL 9 budget.
