Elon Musk is nominated for Nobel Peace Prize by Norwegian MP

Elon Musk nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for 'protecting free speech'

Elon Musk, a “stout proponent of free speech,” has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, joining a limited club of the world’s most important change agents, including journalists, environmentalists, political activists, and religious leaders.

The nominator said that “the world is a more connected and safer place thanks to the multitude of tech companies Musk has founded, owns, or runs.”

According to the Daily Mail, Marius Nilsen, the MP for Norway’s libertarian Progress Party, nominated the owner of X and the inventor of Tesla because of his “adamant defense of discussion, free expression, and [allowing] the chance to express one’s ideas” in a “continuously more polarised society”.

Nilsen also credited Musk’s SpaceX-operated Starlink satellite internet network for his decision, noting that rebel fighters in Ukraine use it to “communicate, coordinate, and withstand the attack from Russia” while the fighting is ongoing.

It is getting increasingly difficult to receive timely and diverse information from the war zone; last week, Starlink was granted a license for similar usage in parts of Gaza and Israel.

Nilsen went on to say that “the world is a more connected and safer place thanks to the multitude of tech companies Musk has founded, owns, or runs, which are aimed at bettering societies, increasing knowledge of both earth and space, in addition to enabling communication and connectivity globally.”
